The Front for the Working – Class Insurrection (mostly known by its acronym “META”) is a wide workers organization which unites employees of the public and private sector, who are active in unions throughout Greece.
“META- Health sector” belongs to the wide organization (META) and its members are active within health care unions. Members of META – Heath Sector are nursing providers, doctors, administration officers, laboratory assistants, paramedics, social workers, technicians, and employees in the public health care system. Of these members, many are currently serving on the boards of local Hospital Employees Unions and the Associations of Hospital Doctors. In addition, several members also serve on the boards of second grade unions (federations) e.g. the Panhellenic Federation of Employees in the Public Hospitals (POEDIN) and the Federation of Hospital Doctors (OENGE).
The main goal of “META – Health Sector” is to defend the people’s right to free-public health care access with high quality services that meet modern needs.
Simultaneously, we fight to defend the rights of the health care providers, the right to decent working conditions (including compliance with health and safety standards), and the right to receive decent salaries, social security, and retirement.
In addition, “META – Health sector” endeavors to overthrow the neo-liberal memorandum policies that have been implemented in the healthcare field.
These policies aim to reduce public healthcare infrastructures and encourage their privatization.
These policies have violated fundamental workers rights regarding stable employment with full-time contract entitlements, and have imposed a “dark-age” of flexible working conditions (e.g. individual short- term contracts, freelance, agency workers etc).
“META Health sector” operates within the radical trade unionist left in Greece and retains a firm front against fascism, racism and xenophobia.
“META Health” strives for the implementation of policies that will prioritize humans and society, as opposed to the interests of the Banks and of various business groups.
